To Tub or Not to Tub

- Know Your Tile
When planning your bathroom renovation, one question may come up: do I need a tub in my master? You have more options than you think! Many home owners and builder are omitting the tub and adding linen closets, toilets rooms and huge showers. Is this change right for you? Personally, I cannot imagine giving up my tub. In fact I want/need a much bigger one in my life—but not everyone feels this way. You need to think of what will work best for you.
The argument for no tub
If you’re not a tuber and space is a problem in your en suite, you may consider nixing the tub in favour for more space. Some soaker tubs are huge and can be a unnecessary pain if you don’t use it; not to mention a huge job to clean it when you do want to use it those three times in a year. Switching your tub out for large, frameless FLEURCO glass shower doors and adding an extra head will soon have you and your partner showering as the same time!
If you have mobility issues, you may need a large, custom shower in your en suite (which will take up more space than your standard shower). Showers can now be completely barrier free, meaning no curb or ramps for a wheelchair.
Tubs can be expensive. Save money by foregoing a fancy, expensive tub. Instead, install some natural stone in your shower and make it a stunning feature.
No one says you need to have a tub in the master, so why not make your bathroom fit your life style.
The case in favour of a soak
If you love your tub and would never give up your soak and wine time (like me) then keep it! Bathtubs have been a staple in master bathrooms for years, and sometimes a master bath may look incomplete without one.
If you do not have another tub in your house, then you may just have to stick with it—especially if you are looking to sell in the near future. Realtors finds it challenging to sell a house with no tub, as many buyers have kids to bathe, or they just like to have the option of taking a long soak a few times a year.
A tub can be a focal point of your master bathroom. Couple the tub with a beautiful accent wall behind it to create a striking, spa feel.
If space is an issue, try switching an oversized corner tub for a smaller, deeper FLEURCO ARIA freestanding tub.
SO when it all boils down the decision really just comes down to you and your family’s preferences. How often will you use your tub? How often are you wishing you had more space? Double vanity? Toilet closet? Bigger shower? Weigh your options and make the decision that works best for you and your home. But do not feel compelled to stick with the traditional lay out—go wild! Make this your dream bathroom.
